I just spent a week away for my graduate program. The thought of leaving home in the middle of the summer without my family was pretty stressful. I hadn’t flown in…well a very long time and I had no idea what to expect. I knew my classmates and professor a little from online video assignments but other than that, I had no clue.
I took away so much from the week including 11 new best friends and colleagues but the part I want to share with all of you is the fact that I learned that we are never alone with our feelings.
It is so easy to say those words “You’re not alone” but I really experienced it. Not only were all of us just as anxious about the week, but there were so many other similarities as well. We all came from very different lives. Our skin color, country of origin, state of origin, sexual orientation, age, and other background made us look like an experiment in diversity from the outside. However, we then started to peel back those layers and saw that underneath we are all the same emotions and feelings. It was a truly amazing experience.
I am sharing this with you now because I am hoping that I can help you embrace your fears with a new understanding that we are all having this human experience together. I am filled with this new drive and desire to help all of you embrace those fears and soar above.
